Pleine Mer lists all points of direct sales

The association put online a map of short supply chains for fish on the 10th of February on : associationpleinemer.com. (DR)

50%

On average, direct sales account for 50% of the turnover of the fishing companies surveyed by the association.

Summer
The season when these sales are
at their highest.

That’s not going to help the auction business. The Pleine Mer association, created about a year ago, has mapped all the places where fishermen sell their products directly, indicating the times and locations of sale. Thibault Josse, the permanent staff member of the association chaired by Charles Braine, travelled all along the coast to list these fishermen who have points of sale. Producers continue to register. “If consumer groups are formed, why not help them to form Amap cooperatives around fishing communities,” says Josse. He plans to take advantage of the election period to encourage local elected officials to promote direct sales in their territories.

Beyond this connection between fishermen and consumers, the association’s ambition goes much further. “We are not « uberizing » the fishing activity, we are an association, we don’t take any commission. It’s about connecting fishermen and the general public, creating a link, not just selling. It’s about changing the cleavage between NGOs and fishermen. NGOs often give a simplified vision of fishing, we have to explain to people what it really is.” The board of directors of Pleine Mer includes members of the general public and fishermen, “many from the Bay of Biscay, but also from other places. About thirty people are involved on a daily basis.”
